About This Video

In this watercolor pansies tutorial, I’m walking you through an easy, step-by-step way to paint pansies using a wedge brush—without making it feel fussy or high-pressure. This lesson was requested by someone in our Beala Art community (which I love), and my goal is always the same: paint loosely, stay relaxed, and let watercolor be your calm place. The wedge brush does a lot of the heavy lifting here because it naturally creates those pretty, petal-like shapes that make pansies look believable fast. We’ll build the flower in simple stages—starting with soft, loose petal shapes, then layering in deeper violet tones and little details that give pansies their personality. I also show you how I keep things approachable with just a few color mixes and gentle brush control, plus quick stems and leaves to finish it off. If you’re newer to watercolor (or newer to wedge brushes), this is a really friendly place to start, and I also link my deeper wedge-brush lessons if you want to understand the brush even more.
