WE LADIES HAVE A TOUGH TIME GETTING A STRONG BENCH PRESS- we are stuck at a poverty bench but wait! Open for more tips/explanations☟ 1. Why do we arch? An arch is not necessarily bad for you - if you are a lifter with any sort of a butt, you realize it's near impossible for you to have a completely flat bench. Powerlifters that compete arch their back because this decreases the range of motion (the distance they have to press) and increases competitiveness. Yes, you obviously work more if you arch less but the arch definitely helps me tighten up my back/shoulders, keeps my elbows in and makes my bench strong. If you have the mobility to do so, go for it! 2. Tie a band/put a yoga mat down to avoid slipping on the bench, especially off the side. When I don't do this, I can find myself losing balance on one side and pressing unevenly 3. Keep your elbows inwards!!! Don't let them flare out and keep your body generally tight or else you risk injury and fuck injuries!! 4. When to breathe? Deep breath at beginning of lift, keep body tight and release your breath when your bar is back at the top. HUGE PROTIP- you are bringing your body closer to the bar, not the other way around. Keep it tight and high.
