About This Video

In this video, I’m being a little vulnerable and sharing the listening-practice mistakes I made for way too long—especially back when I thought “more listening” automatically meant “better listening.” I walk you through five specific traps I fell into, like treating listening as a passive background activity, choosing audio that was way above my level, and expecting comprehension to magically appear without any structure. If you’ve ever felt like you’re “listening a lot” but not improving, this is exactly the kind of situation I’m talking about. I also explain what I wish I’d done instead: building listening into my holistic language learning system in a way that actually supports immersion, motivation, and consistency. That means picking the right kind of input for the right moment, being honest about what I’m training (sounds vs. vocab vs. speed), and using simple checkpoints so I don’t drift. My goal with this format is to help you avoid the same mistakes I made, and to remind you that listening isn’t just a skill—you can design it like a routine that fits your real life.
