In this video I’m sharing what’s *new* in our preschool morning basket for Samuel (he’s three), and how we use it as a calm little start to the day. We’re not technically homeschooling yet, so I keep this really gentle—this is basically the only “sit-down” learning time we do, and even then it’s only if he’s interested. I like morning basket because it gives me a simple routine and I can introduce letters, numbers, and Bible time without it feeling heavy. I show what we’ve kept from our last basket (our “God and Me” devotional, The Beginner’s Bible as a backup, and whatever Peppa Pig magazine we’re on), and then what I’ve added in. I’m starting a gratitude journal so we can practise noticing what we’re thankful for and then pray about it. For Bible time, I’m bringing back Play Through the Bible mainly for the songs and the guided discussion questions, because Samuel still sings some of the songs even after ages. For early literacy and maths, I’m “dipping our toes in”: a Melissa & Doug self-correcting alphabet puzzle, my own DIY sandpaper letters, and rough-and-ready worksheets I drew myself (because I couldn’t find ones I liked). For counting, I use sandpaper numbers plus pouch lids as manipulatives with simple number cards. We don’t do everything every day—we do the devotional most days, then choose one letter or number activity depending on the day.
