In this video I’m showing you exactly how I make drums pop in a modern mix using JST Drum Forge DF Xcite 2. I’m working inside a real Logic session (stock Logic Drummer samples, because that’s what most of us are actually dealing with), and I A/B the drums with the plugin off vs on so you can hear the “night and day” difference. The whole point is getting bigger, punchier, more exciting drums—without wrecking the mix or spending all day tweaking. I go channel-by-channel on kick, snare, toms, hats, and overheads and explain what I’m listening for: more hit/attack on the kick, modern rock/metal snare “pop” and sizzle without harshness, and cymbals that get brighter and more alive but don’t pierce. I’m not doing anything crazy—often it’s just a few percent per band—because I want it to feel like one cohesive performance, not a hyped-up sample. Then I flip it in the full mix (with my quick top-down bus chain) to show how DF Xcite 2 helps the drums come to life fast, which is exactly what I need for tight YouTube demo mixes.
