About This Video

In this video I review the Leica Q3 43 the way I actually use cameras: in the real world, with images, not a spec-sheet lecture. I bought this camera with my own money, and I’ll say it up front—it’s not for everyone. If you’re here for the red dot and you believe there’s a bit of Leica “magic,” you might align with me. If you’re shopping purely with your brain, there are honestly a lot of better-value options. I start with my issues: the handling is rough for a camera this heavy because there’s basically no grip—Leica went aesthetics over usability, and I don’t love that I had to buy a third-party case to feel safe. I also don’t understand the lack of a dedicated ISO dial, the occasional lag, and the playback zoom behavior that doesn’t jump to the focus point. The EVF glass being so close to the edge means I’m constantly wiping it, and the autofocus (especially AFC in low light) feels a generation or two behind. Then I get into why I still like it: the image quality is genuinely superb, the 43mm f/2 lens is usable across the frame, the manual focus/macro mechanism is beautifully done, and the optical stabilization lets me shoot ridiculously slow shutter speeds. Add weather sealing and that leaf shutter—quiet, low shock, and high flash sync—and that’s where the Q3 43 makes sense: heart over mind.
