Im always on the look out for great portable devices. The Ifi Valkyrie is pushing it but does it sound good especially versus dongles and daps of today? About This Video

In this video I review the iFi iDSD Valkyrie, and I’m focusing mainly on real-world usage: how it’s laid out, how it behaves as a transportable DAC/amp, and most importantly—how it sounds versus modern dongles and DAPs. I skip most of the unboxing, but I do call out the packaging because the wooden case is genuinely awesome. From there I walk through the ports (dual USB-C for charge/data, coax/optical, RCA out, line outs), the front 4.4mm output, and the basic controls like gain (Turbo/Nitro), filters, and the iFi effects like XSpace, XBass, and XPresence. My only real usability complaint is the lack of absolute volume—you have to look at the screen to know where you are. Sound-wise, I find the Valkyrie to be a very dynamic, clear, larger-sounding DAC/amp with a big stage and lots of power (it’ll run planars like the NOAH X just fine). Versus the W2 Ultra dongle, the Valkyrie is simply more exciting and less “flat/boring,” and the headphone gap is huge. I also compare it to DAPs like the Lotoo PAW Gold Touch and Shanling M9+, then dig into how competent the internal amp is versus transportable amps (TB100, LP EA4, Enleum, Mass Kobo). My takeaway: as a full transportable package, the Valkyrie is super competent, often making extra amping optional, and I’m getting 15–20 hours of battery in my testing.
