About This Video

On a recent trip to Singapore, I went retailer-to-retailer with one goal: find something cheap and good—sub $200–$300—and actually put my own money down. Out of everything I tried, the one I bought on the spot was the Activo Volcano, a triple dynamic driver IEM that sits around the $100 range (my memory says I paid around $150-ish, but it’s still very affordable). Build-wise, I’ll be honest: it looks cheap—plastic shell, plastic faceplate, 2-pin—but the polycarbonate-style plastic feels durable, and the included interchangeable plug system (4.4 plus 3.5 and USB-C in the case) is super practical for daily use. Sound is the reason this thing exists. The Volcano is very fun, very engaging, and “correct” enough that you can just enjoy music without overthinking. It’s mid-forward, full-bodied with a slight warmth, and the bass is some of the best I’ve heard at the price—clean, punchy, with real sub-bass rumble that feels almost physical. The trade-offs are what you’d expect: soundstage is average, and some micro-details can go missing unless you really listen for them. I also compare it directly against the Zero 2 and A64 Solo using modern pop tracks (“Your Idol” and “Golden”). The Solo is technically superior, but the Volcano delivers a ridiculous amount of enjoyment for the money—easily my daily driver because it gives me about 90% of the fun at a tiny fraction of the cost.
