About This Video

In this First Look, I’m checking out the ZMF Bokeh—ZMF’s most affordable closed-back, and one that’s still beautifully made. This is the version I bought myself from Zeppelin last year, so it’s the simpler package: box, spare pads, and the headphone (no clamshell case). I walk through what’s included, the Limba wood look (which I personally prefer), the build and comfort, and the basics like the 80 ohm impedance and the 3.5mm cup connectors. For listening, I ran it off my Astell&Kern SE300 in Class A because the Bokeh is designed to be easy to drive. Sound-wise, the Bokeh leans warm and “satisfying.” The bass hits with good weight and body, but it’s not the fastest or most snappy presentation—it’s a bit on the slower, smoother, more soothing side. Treble and air are there, but more smoothed out, and the soundstage is impressively “out of the head” for a closed-back. Pad choice matters a lot: the leather pads without the suede inner lining sounded muffled and boomy to me, while the suede inner lining pads brought back clarity and made the Bokeh one of the better-sounding closed-backs I’ve tried. I also compare it to the ZMF Caldera Closed. The Caldera wins on stage, clarity, speed, and refinement, but the Bokeh can feel more satisfying in bass and body at normal volumes—especially with the right pads.
