About This Video

In this first look, I’m checking out the Audio-Technica ATH-ADX3000—an open-back that I honestly didn’t expect to like this much, mainly because I rarely touch Audio-Technica these days. This set was loaned to me by Jaben, and I went into it pretty “inexperienced” with the brand’s current sound direction. I cover the unboxing, the cable choices (you get a 1/4-inch and a short 4.4mm balanced), and the physical build—super light at around 270g, with a velvet headband cover that I think will attract dirt over time. Sound-wise, my first impression is that it’s a really pleasant, balanced headphone with clear highs, solid mids that aren’t overly recessed, and punchy mid-bass (though it doesn’t extend super low). The big quirk for me is sibilance—I’m very sensitive to it, and the ADX3000 has a bit more than I’d like, even though it’s not “downright bad.” I also compare it to the Focal Utopia (2022): ADX3000 feels brighter/cooler with crisp treble detail, while Utopia is warmer, smoother, and has better bass rumble and a larger stage. Finally, I test with the Aroma Audio TB100 amp and hear noticeable improvements: clearer mids, slightly bigger stage, and reduced sibilance. Overall, it’s a strong performer for the price—different taste vs flagship options, but way closer than the price gap suggests.
