In this video I’m testing the Insta360 Mic Air—the first official wireless mic that pairs natively with the Insta360 X5 over Bluetooth. I unbox the standalone transmitter version, show you what’s inside (the premium waterproof/dustproof case, integrated wind muff, and the magnetic charging dock/necklace setup), and then walk through the exact X5 settings to get it working. Once it’s connected, you’ll immediately see the audio meter on the X5 screen, and you can enable dual-track audio so you record both the Mic Air track and the internal mic track at the same time. Then I take it outside around 9:00 p.m. in very windy conditions and do real-world audio tests—PureShot video, one-press noise cancelling on the transmitter, and a side-by-side comparison versus the onboard mic with wind noise reduction set to Strong. My takeaway: the Mic Air is small, elegant, cost-effective, and the audio quality is a huge upgrade for everyday X5 shooting—especially when you combine it with X5’s low-light performance. I also share my feature requests: I want dual-transmitter support on X5, onboard recording for backup, and broader compatibility/updates (Ace Pro 2 support, and opening the protocol to more third-party audio options).
