Iyengar Yoga for Beginners - Parsvottanasana Tutorial. Stage 1 Welcome to our channel, Yoga with Lin and Leo. Safe, detailed instruction from experienced Iyengar yoga teachers. In this pose, Parsvottanasana, a simple forward bend, the legs are taken one in front of the other, which gives space for the spine to move. It can be a very useful standing forward bend if you have stiffness in the hamstrings, back, or leg muscles. This Iyengar Yoga Tutorial will stretch your hamstrings and improve your forward bends. If you don't have any yoga equipment, you can take the hands to a chair and put the heel up onto a folded towel. This standing forward bending action calms the nervous system, reducing tension and anxiety. We will be looking at the more demanding, classic version of this pose where the hands come into Paschima Namaskar (Reverse Prayer position), in a later film. Look out for this pose in our next released yoga sequence "Wake Up and Move!". Tight hamstrings are often associated with a stiff upper back. And we often see in those who come to yoga class with low back pain, the combination of a long spine and tight hamstrings. Stretching the hamstrings will, over a period of time, alleviate these back problems. Yoga also helps to improve posture, tension in the body and stress levels. Yoga does provide a physical workout, but more importantly, these programmes are designed to harmonise mind, body and breath. Yoga is not just to increase your flexibility, strength and the general tone of your body; it has the capacity to free your mind, improve your wellbeing and increase your mental resilience. Develop good posture and begin here to create a foundation for a home yoga practice.
