We’re back with another cookup, and in this one I’m showing you how I build a deep melodic TechHouse vibe in FL Studio from scratch. I start straight away at around 117 BPM (a little faster than my last one), then I lay the foundation with drums: a solid kick, then I dig for a top loop that actually grooves. I also layer loops on purpose—one can be minimal, and the second one can fill out the frequencies—then I worry about balancing later. Big tip I always preach: preview sounds with the music playing, not in silence, because you’ll hear immediately if it fits or if it’s doing too much. From there I move into bass one-shots and chop them into slices so it’s not just “drag and drop and pray.” I make cuts so the bass parts don’t clash and I use fades to make the groove breathe. Then we get into the interesting parts: I pull up Surge and hunt for a lead/texture to give the track direction, record a swung performance (not on-grid), and even test OTT—then I keep it real and ditch it because it wasn’t enhancing the sound. After that I build darker Rhodes-style chords, sidechain them, add chorus/phaser vibes, reverb for ambience, and even transpose/strum for a haunting layer. I also touch on CPU/plugin issues (Harour was heavy), then keep pushing the idea toward a B section and layering for movement. Heat.
