Welcome to Wrong Time Watch—my name is Kevin, and in this video I’m putting the Vaer S5 Tactical Field 40mm Quartz on a bunch of different straps to see what actually works with this black “tactical” case. Before swapping anything, I run through the key specs: sapphire crystal, Japanese Miyota quartz movement with about 40 months of battery life, and 10 ATM (100m) water resistance. It’s a super legible watch with really nice lume for under $200, and it was even on sale around $170 when I last checked. I start with the factory silicone and nylon options. I like the contrasting khaki nylon, but the silicone is a little more comfortable—especially when your arm gets wet—and I also point out a nice little keeper “nub” that keeps the strap tail under control (which matters on my 6.5" wrist). From there I try a Vario vintage German leather strap (surprisingly good on the black case), a Vario waxed canvas strap that feels like an old pair of jeans and needs zero break-in, and a couple of Montreux FKM rubber straps—including a bright white one that I didn’t expect to like, but the white plays well with the hands. I also test a StrapHabit rubber + deployant combo, an Artem Straps Hydrlex loopless deployant (which is honestly more expensive than the watch), and two single-piece options: a StrapHabit FKM “NATO style” strap and an Aibinbon hook-and-loop. The hook-and-loop ends up being the most comfortable by far, while the Hydrlex is probably my favorite look overall—so I’ll let you decide what matters more: comfort, looks, or matching hardware.
