In this video I’m checking out the Timex Waterbury Traditional Day-Date 39mm on leather, and it’s the first time I’ve had one of these in hand—so a big thanks to Peter C for lending it in. I walk through what you actually get for the money (about $139), including the packaging, the screwed-down caseback, and the fact that it’s a Japanese quartz movement with assembly in the Philippines. Timex also has a ton of variations of this model on their site—bracelet options, GMT versions, and different dial setups. The watch itself is a sector dial, and I’ll be honest: I’ve got mixed feelings about sector dials in general, but I do like the overall styling here. You’ve got a nice mix of brushed and polished surfaces, a mineral crystal, quick-release genuine leather that feels soft, and 100 meters of water resistance with a push-pull crown. I measure it at 39mm wide, 46.7mm lug-to-lug, 11.8mm thick, and 20mm lugs tapering to 18mm. I also point out a few quirks—like the second hand wobble in certain spots and how it starts missing indices in parts of the dial. Lume is decent for the price, but it’s obviously not going to hang with something like my Hamilton. My biggest nitpick is the thickness; I think this would be even better if it were slimmer.
