In this video I do something a little different than watches and end up wrenching on one of my Demko AD20.5s (I’ve got more than three of these 20.5s… I went a little crazy on knives a couple years back). One of the used ones developed an annoying issue where I can push the blade forward a bit, and it finally started to bother me. I reached out to Demko and the big takeaway is this: you can’t just swap blades on these. If you’re going to do a swap, you need to swap the blade, the lock, and the pivot as a set. I take the knives apart on camera, run into the usual “taking it apart is easier than putting it together” reality, and I’m very much doing this in real time—trial and error, mixed-up parts, and all. I also point out a couple practical notes like the different screw lengths (shorter screws on the side without the clip) and how you have to push the shark lock back when reinstalling the blade. In the end, I do get it “fixed,” but not the way I wanted: I had to put the blade I preferred into the carbon fiber build and move the clip point into the titanium. One knife ends up super solid with no clicking, and the other still has a tiny bit of blade play if I really push on it—but at least it’s not kicking the shark lock out of position anymore.
