In this video I’m unboxing the 20mm version of the Abanen hook-and-loop straps and installing them on my Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical. I’ve already been wearing the 22mm version on my Tudor FXD (even though these are marketed as smartwatch straps), and I keep coming back to them because they’re just flat-out comfortable. These were about $20 on Amazon, and I wanted to see if the 20mm set feels the same and works as well on a traditional field watch. I also walk through the install, because you do have to think about it a little bit—it’s kind of backwards from what you’d assume at first. The big win for me is the way this strap wears thin: it doesn’t sit behind the case like a NATO, so it doesn’t add thickness at the caseback. That matters on a watch like this Hamilton that’s already slim (around 9mm-ish), especially if you want it to slide under a shirt cuff. I try both the gray and black straps on wrist, talk about the look, and I’ll let you decide which color you like better.
