Making maple syrup for the first time turned out to be my favorite project for the entire winter. It was so peaceful. Time in nature. Time by the fire. And the final product is so delicious. I wasn't sure if I was going to have enough time to start tapping trees this year, but figured might as well just start small now and learn as much as I can from my first season. I'm so glad I went for it, because now I know this is going to be a family tradition for years to come. I know some people who are making syrup on a larger scale and run hoses through the whole forest, but there is something so magical about just putting up the metal buckets, collecting the maple water each day, and then boiling it all down on a big open fire. I'm excited to design our sugar shack, so we can enjoy homemade maple syrup all year long. And we're definitely going to be drinking maple water next season!! Here's to more surprises in the future!
