Yes, you read that title right—I signed up for another UX design bootcamp. In this video, I’m giving you a real career update and walking you through what I chose, why I chose it, and what I’m hoping to get out of it. The program is “UX/UI Design for Gaming” hosted by ELVTR, and it’s a seven-week, live online course with recorded classes, office hours for instructor feedback, and some career support like portfolio/case study and interview help. It’s taught by Ivy Sang, who has 14+ years of UX experience in gaming and has worked on titles like FIFA, NHL, Battlefield, and Dragon Age. The main reason I’m doing this (again) is simple: I want to learn something new and think differently as a UX designer. I’ve spent most of my career in retail and e-commerce, and honestly I’m a little bit bored—so I’m trying to bridge into a different industry and diversify my portfolio. Gaming UX also sparked a bunch of questions for me around onboarding, tutorials, and how you present complex RPG-style stats in a way that’s smooth for players to digest. I also talk about my concerns: the program seems pretty new, so there aren’t many reviews, and I’m not fully convinced it’s the best fit for total UX beginners doing a full career switch. But for me—four years into UX—it feels like a lower-risk investment (under $2K) to explore a niche and potentially open doors in the gaming industry.
