About This Video

In this video, I talk about something I’ve been noticing going into 2023: the UX design hype is finally calming down, and honestly…I think that’s a good thing. Back in 2020, UX blew up hard—every other person I met wanted to switch careers, people were rushing into bootcamps, and I had old friends from every stage of life hitting me up asking what UX really is. But lately, it feels like fewer people are jumping in impulsively, and I share a few reasons why. I break down what I think is driving the shift: the pandemic is over (so people don’t have the same time/space to rethink everything), the “unknown is known” (there are way more resources now, so people understand the job better), and the tech glamour is gone (day-in-the-life content made tech look way too shiny). On top of that, layoffs have been a major dose of reality, and the barrier to entry is still tough—especially with entry-level saturation and a lot of bootcamps being, in my opinion, subpar. My takeaway is simple: this is a healthy reset. Less pressure, fewer false expectations, and hopefully a more thoughtful path for people who truly want to do UX.
