About This Video

In this video, I’m taking you through a busy work-from-home day as a UX designer based in Atlanta, Georgia. Before my first meeting, I always check my calendar and to-do list so I know what to expect and what I need to get done. From there, I jump into our product team stand-up (PM, engineers, and me as the UX designer) where we share updates on what we did yesterday and what we’re tackling today. The main focus of the day is usability testing. I walk through how I facilitate user testing with a clickable prototype (I was working on a new page for our existing app), and why I ask users to think out loud while they complete tasks—because it helps me understand their behavior and thought process, not just whether they “liked” the design. After the session, my product team and I sync immediately to debrief what went well, what didn’t, and what stood out. I also show the less glamorous but very real part of research: scheduling more sessions by emailing and calling users to lock in times. The rest of the day includes a new designer 1-on-1, my biweekly 1-on-1 with my UX manager, heads-down time to review notes and prep a stakeholder presentation, and a monthly UX all-hands where leaders share updates and interns present their final work.
