In this episode of the Retro Station, we put this older i5-4460 CPU based machine back to work, and instead of Multibooting, we run Multiple Retro OS's at one time. Can it be done? About This Video

Greetings, people of the internet—Unkyjoe here. In Retro Station Episode 1, I took my old 4th-gen i5 “Borg” box (i5-4460, 16GB RAM, GTX 950, SSD boot + a big ol’ spinning-rust drive) and put it back to work the smart way: virtualization. I originally did the whole multi-boot thing with Vista/7/8, and let me tell you… it was clunky, slow, and a pain in the ass. Then I had an epiphany—why not slice this one machine into a bunch of little “mini PCs” and run multiple retro OS’s at the same time? So I loaded Windows 11 Enterprise on the host and used VMware Workstation Pro (free) to spin up Windows XP, Vista, Windows 7, and even Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC 2021. The big takeaway: old hardware isn’t “useless” just because it’s old—this little quad-core is happily running multiple VMs, and the real bottleneck is the spinning hard drive (which is also perfect if you want the authentic “back in the day” feel). If Windows 10 looks locked up, it’s usually just saturating that hard drive—be patient and watch Task Manager. Long term, I may add another SSD for faster VM storage, but for nostalgia and realism, spinning rust still has a place in the lab.
