About This Video

For the record, I was perfectly happy on Proxmox 8… and then I let peer pressure (I’m blaming Sakura) talk me into an 8-to-9 upgrade I didn’t even need. This video is basically my "upgrade from hell" story—how I did the responsible thing (shut down VMs, disabled start-at-boot, backed up… then backed up again because anxiety), ran the pre-upgrade checks, and still managed to break my lab box in spectacular fashion. If you want proof that the best way to learn to fix something is to break it first, I’m your guy. What actually went wrong was a combo of "past me" decisions and bad assumptions: old DKMS/Nvidia leftovers, changes Sakura and I made months ago (RAID setup, extra software), and most importantly the wrong repositories after I followed an AI-generated path instead of sticking to Proxmox docs. After I corrected repos, the upgrade itself went fine—but then reboot issues hit (grub flashing and dumping into BIOS), followed by the classic post-kernel-upgrade surprise: the NIC got renamed, so my web UI died until I edited the network interfaces/bridge config. Takeaway? If you tinker like I do, a clean install + restore is often the least painful path. Also, I show off ProxMenuX Monitor, which is a slick dashboard for health, storage, VMs, sensors, and temps—just don’t run random scripts without backups and a clue.
