So you’ve got an iPad—maybe the 9th gen like mine—and you’re trying to hook up an audio interface, a MIDI keyboard, and a mic so you can actually record and make music on a budget. In this video I show my exact setup using the iPad 9th generation (Lightning port), the Apple Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter, and a powered USB hub so everything gets enough juice. The big takeaway is simple: with the older iPads, you usually need external power, because the tablet by itself typically won’t power an interface + MIDI + mic reliably. I walk you through the connection order step-by-step: adapter into the iPad, powered hub into the adapter, then plug your interface and MIDI keyboard into the hub. If you want continuous power while you work, I also show how to plug a Lightning cable into the adapter so the iPad stays charging the whole time. Then I test it live—mic signal coming in, monitoring on, and I show the basic recording settings (multi-track, 24-bit) plus how I import an instrumental from Files and record a quick vocal and a quick MIDI piano part. If it doesn’t connect at first, don’t panic—I had to restart the iPad and then it popped up and worked.
