Following riders is an important skill/tactic we use in mountain biking all the time. It’s great for finding the right speed for a feature, or to get the correct line on a tricky section of the trail. But how close should you follow? Unfortunately, there is no correct answer, or formula, you can apply because every situation is different. It really comes down to experience, skill level, who you’re following, terrain and conditions. We will go over a few scenarios and circumstances to help you figure out how to make the correct call, and I’ll tell you my preferences.
