I’ve been riding in the Pearl Izumi X Alp Summit MTB shoes for over a year, testing them in the toughest terrain and conditions around me, and I have been blown away! However I did run into some minor durability issues which we will cover as well. Regardless, I would have no problems recommending this shoe to any riders looking for a do it all enduro, or all-mountain, clipless shoe. MORE DETAILS: The X Alp Summit is a capable, lightweight, three season rugged MTB shoe. It is primarily constructed with a synthetic leather that is breathable and durable. The heal cup and collar and very plush making it comfortable to wear on longer rides. But that does not mean it sacrifices any efficiency. The sole is constructed using Vibram ECOSTEP which is grippy for walking and stiff for pedaling. Regarding tie down, the Summit replies on a single BOA at the top and Velcro strap at the bottom which proved to be more than adequate. However, I did run into some issues with durability. After 6 months of use I noticed that parts of the soul did start to peel away, which I was able to fix with some shoe glue. Also after about 10 months I noticed the BOA would begin to lose its tension during the ride. But it should be noted that they can be replaced so I suppose that is not too bad. And since applying the shoe glue I have continued to use the shoe for another 6 months. And while Pearl Izumi did send me these shoes. I am not sponsored by them, nor have I received any payment or clause to produce this video. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and I did not have to send it to them prior to posting this video. In fact, I enjoyed this shoe so much that I ended up spending my own money for a second pair.
