Black jumps on a Blue trail – Wayne’s Trail – Frederick Watershed, MD [FTR Series]

With gap jumps ranging from 8 to 16 ft there’s no way Wayne’s Trail is a “Blue” mountain bike trail, and holy crap is it fun! We took the time to session each one before putting it all together at the end for one full pull, and it’s intense. Of course, there are ride arounds for all of them, so you can pick and choose which ones to hit, but there is no avoiding the rocky gnar and steep chutes toward the end, so keep your wits about you. TRAIL DETAIL: As stated above, the gap jumps are not mandatory and range from about 8 to 16 ft. Starting at the top there are about 6 jumps. The first one is the perfect squirrel catcher because if you can clear that with no issues then you will probably be ok on the rest. The last gap jump might not be the longest, but the ramp is the tallest, so you will get plenty of airtime. My advice, if you don’t have someone to tow you in, just give it more speed than you think you will need. The landings on a few of them are not case friendly, so it’s better to be on the save side. After the gap jumps the trail turns into the typical Frederick gnar with rock gardens and steep chutes the rest of the way down. Speed is your friend if you can commit to the insanity, otherwise pick your way safely down the mountain. At the bottom you will have a creek crossing that will dump you out onto Mountaindale Rd.
