About This Video

In this video, I’m improving the Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) on a WordPress site—because LCP is basically how long it takes for the biggest element on your page to load. And that one element matters a lot: Google cares, your visitors care, and if it’s slow, people just sit there waiting (and bouncing). I also show you how to stop guessing what your LCP element is by testing your site in PageSpeed Insights and checking the “LCP request discovery” section to see exactly what Google flags as the LCP element. From there, I walk through 5 proven fixes that consistently move the needle. First, I optimize images (they’re usually the biggest “weight” on a page) using Optimole, and I recommend optimizing for speed if LCP is your goal. Second, I exclude above-the-fold images from lazy loading, because lazy loading your LCP image can backfire. Third, I enable caching using Super Page Cache so WordPress doesn’t have to regenerate pages on every visit. Fourth, I connect a CDN—either Optimole’s image CDN or Cloudflare for full-site delivery and edge caching. And finally, I talk about hosting: not all hosts perform the same, so if you’ve done the basics and LCP is still bad, your server might be the real bottleneck.
