I talk about why letting your hair fully soak under the water first is not optional—water is literally step one for moisturizing, and I think of it like watering a plant and watching it come back to life. I also break down the two types of shampoo I wish somebody explained sooner: clarifying vs. moisturizing. If I’m doing a silk press or blow drying, I like clarifying first to get all the gel, oil, and buildup out so my hair is squeaky clean and doesn’t immediately poof up—then I follow with a moisturizing shampoo to bring softness back. For regular wash days, I usually stick to moisturizing, but clarifying isn’t the enemy when your hair needs a reset. And when it comes to conditioner, I’m serious about slip—your hair should start softening as you apply it. My go-to wash day order is shampoo, mask/deep conditioner, then conditioner, because wash day shouldn’t feel like a fight.
