Amazon Storefront for all my gardening favorites! https://www.amazon.com/shop/theprovidentgardener?ref=ac_inf_tb_vh&ccs_id=806657a2-affe-474c-bd69-ebdfff4afd39 Garlic is usually planted in the fall—but what happens if you miss that window? In this video, I’m planting garlic in the middle of winter and sharing why I’m trying it anyway. Life got busy and I never got my garlic in the ground last fall. Instead of skipping garlic altogether, I decided to experiment and see what happens when garlic is planted late—as long as the soil isn’t completely frozen. I explain why garlic is typically planted in the fall, what vernalization is, and what you can realistically expect if you plant garlic in winter or even early spring. This is not the ideal way to grow garlic, and I’m setting expectations up front: the bulbs may be smaller—but some garlic is better than no garlic. I walk through the basic garlic planting process, spacing, depth, and what I’ll be watching for as the season progresses. This is a real-life gardening experiment, and I’ll be sharing updates in early spring and a follow-up video at harvest time so we can see if planting garlic late was worth it. If you missed fall garlic planting too and are wondering if it’s still possible to grow garlic this year, this video is for you. 🌱 Topics covered: When garlic should be planted (and why) What happens if you plant garlic late Planting garlic in winter or early spring Garlic vernalization explained Realistic expectations for late-planted garlic Let me know in the comments—have you ever planted garlic in winter?
