But over the years I’ve learned that not every plant actually needs that head start. Some crops grow so fast that direct sowing them in the garden works just as well — and sometimes even better. In this video, I’m sharing the plants I used to start indoors but don’t anymore. By planting these seeds directly in the garden, I avoid transplant shock, save space under my grow lights, and simplify my seed starting setup. You might be surprised how quickly some of these plants grow once they’re planted outside! In this video I talk about: • Squash (summer and winter) • Pumpkins • Cucumbers • Melons • Bush beans (and pole beans) • Zinnias • Sunflowers If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by starting too many seeds indoors, this might help you simplify your gardening process and focus your indoor seed starting on the crops that truly benefit from it — like tomatoes and peppers. Gardening is always a learning process, and sometimes the best improvements come from questioning the way we’ve always done things. I'd love to hear from you in the comments: What plants did you stop starting indoors and now direct sow in your garden? And remember — don’t be afraid to get a little dirt under your fingernails so you can turn that dirt into dinner. Shop GreenStalk Planters https://rstr.co/greenstalkgarden/provident.
