I realised quite early on in my buy to let property investing, that if I wanted anything to happen, it’d be down to me to make sure it happened. The truth is, my priorities aren’t other people’s priorities. And it seems that unless you keep pushing, very often what you need doing won’t be at the top of someone else’s ‘to do’ list. Put another way, no one cares as much as you. It would be lovely if, having agreed with someone, whether for example a builder or a solicitor, that something will be done by a certain date, we all know that if you leave them to it, it either won’t get done, or it won’t get done on time. I have to say that I don’t think I am naturally a pushy person, but I have found and developed ways I can use that I can keep things moving without coming across as too naggy. One of the key things is to start by assuming that it will be down to you manage the situation, and to step in early before things slide, and not wait until things have slidden, at which point it might be hard or even impossible to get them back on track.
