In this video, I share one of my favorite online teaching games for practicing verbs with ESL learners—because verb practice doesn’t have to feel like a worksheet marathon. I walk you through a simple “magic word” guessing game that works with both younger students and older students, and it’s perfect for online classes when you need something interactive fast. The whole point is to get students using key vocabulary in context while they’re focused on the game (not on being “tested”). I also show you how to plug this game into a super easy resource: a “Blankety Blank” style sentence sheet (any worksheet with a missing verb works). Students read the sentence frame, think about what verb would make sense, and then use speaking and listening skills to guess the target student’s secret verb. My big takeaway: online games like this boost engagement, lower anxiety, and give you tons of repetition without it feeling repetitive—exactly what ELLs need to build real verb fluency.
