In this end-of-the-school-year ESL teacher vlog, I’m taking you along my day and sharing the virtual activities and ideas I used to wrap up the year with my English learners. Ending the school year online felt so strange—especially because it was the first time in two months that I hadn’t stepped into my classroom. If you’re not used to teaching online, you already know how different it is to create closure, celebrate growth, and keep students connected from a distance. I walk you through practical, adaptable ideas you can use right away: a Digital Memory Book to help students reflect and celebrate, virtual field trips (including options like Field Trip Zoom and a big list of virtual field trips), and simple virtual classroom games like Kahoot to keep the energy up. I also point you to resources for the heavier moments we sometimes have to navigate—responding to tragedy and teaching about racism—because our students’ emotional world doesn’t pause just because school is virtual. My goal is to help you end the year with meaningful routines, joyful moments, and supportive structures that make your ELLs feel seen, even online.
