You can’t swap the internal keyboard on a MacBook, but if you still miss that mechanical keyboard vibe, I tested an app that gets you surprisingly close: JoyTap for Mac. In this video, I show you exactly what it does—adds mechanical keyboard-style sounds to every keypress—so your MacBook typing feels more like your desktop setup. I walk through the sound presets (red, crystal purple, black ABS/PBT, blue ABS/PBT, brown, brown PBT) and you can hear how loud or tactile each one feels. I also go through the quick setup: granting keyboard access, enabling it at login, and using the menu bar icon to instantly toggle the sounds on/off. I like that it’s lightweight, has distinct sounds for different keys (space, return, modifiers, arrows), and the latency is under 10 ms—so it doesn’t feel laggy. One thing missing is a keyboard shortcut to toggle it, but it’s not a deal breaker.
