I recorded it during the beta launch (October 15th) and I’m telling you right up front: this is one of the easiest government forms I’ve ever seen. The actual application takes about five minutes, you don’t need to upload documents to submit it, and you don’t even have to log in. I show you exactly where to click, what the page looks like, and what info you’ll need (basic borrower details like name, SSN, DOB, phone, and email). Before we fill it out, I also break down the key eligibility rules so you know what you’re applying for: up to $20,000 if you received a Pell Grant (and meet the income requirements), or up to $10,000 if you didn’t. I cover the income thresholds (based on 2020 or 2021 AGI—line 11 on your 1040), which loans are eligible, whether forgiveness is taxed (not federally, but some states may tax it), and what happens after you submit. Then I explain what to expect next—email confirmation, possible income verification, how relief gets applied across multiple loans, and why I’d personally just apply and get it out of the way.
