In this video I did a little change-up: instead of seeing how much I could spend, I went into one Walmart to see how much money I could save by clearance hunting. I started in the clearance aisle (spoiler: a lot of “60 cents off” type stuff), checked end caps, and then moved into video games and toys. I even found the Simpsons stand-up arcade machine marked down from $529 to $199, which is a $330 savings (and it was selling around $410 on Amazon), but I passed on it for this trip. Where things got good was LEGO—specifically unmarked/“secret clearance” sets. I used a mix of BrickSeek info, a heads up from my buddy Colby at BigCheeseThrifts, and the Walmart app to scan sets that had no clearance stickers at all. I ended up buying 22 LEGO sets for $694 (not counting my chocolate chip muffins), and the MSRP total was $1,180—so I saved $486, or about 41.19% off. Big takeaway: just because something is cheap doesn’t mean it’s an instant Amazon flip. At the time of filming, Amazon prices weren’t high enough to cover fees, so this wasn’t a quick FBA play—but as a patient LEGO investor, I’m fine holding 6–12 months and letting sets appreciate. For families and collectors, though, saving ~40% on LEGO is a win all day.
