Shrek is love! Shrek is life! This video is my little time capsule of Shrekfest 2022 — the year it really hit me that the dumb joke we started 8 years ago has fully evolved into an actual festival. We’re talking 1,000+ people of all ages, all dressed in green, packed into Milwaukee’s Humboldt Park like it’s a sacred swamp pilgrimage. I’m running around doing what I do best: hyping the chaos, talking to naturally-green legends (yes, I asked), and trying to keep the day moving while everything somehow works. We’ve got the special opening ceremony, music and games, and the kind of communal Shrek energy that’s hard to explain unless you’ve been there. Shrek is a lot like beer: totally fine to enjoy at home alone, but way better when you’re surrounded by people who love it as much as you do. Then we hit the main event: the Onion-Eating Contest. We crowned a champion, handed out a beautiful prize (thank you, Educators Credit Union), and I witnessed a battle like nothing I’ve ever seen or smelt. If you want the vibe, the laughs, and the proof that Shrek culture is real, this is the one.
