You caught me mid-surgery in the 3GI Reanimation Lab: I’m literally stitching together a movie made from over 1,000 collaborators. This video is my messy, unpolished behind-the-scenes update on why Shrek 2 Retold is still in progress, and why “just slap a date on it” doesn’t work for a project built on individual brush strokes. From the outside it can look quiet, but on the inside it’s hundreds of people, thousands of decisions, and years between submissions—all of which have to lock together in a very specific way. I’ve said “it’s coming this year” for years, and yeah, I get why you don’t believe me. The honest answer is that we’re not just assembling clips—we’re directing, rebuilding, and coordinating a ridiculous number of moving parts, and every cut I make affects a bunch of other contributors. I call it “post-production hell” (a term I just made up), because yesterday’s shortcuts become today’s work, and quick fixes don’t stick. Also: the smaller videos aren’t filler. Skits and experiments keep 3GI alive, bring in new patrons, and prevent burnout (burnout is terminal). I’m not walking away—I’m doing the careful part so this thing doesn’t come out half alive. It has a pulse, and I’m finishing it this year.
