In this episode of Shrek 2 Time, I’m basically doing a “quick overview” of what you’re about to see—plus addressing the one topic that lit the internet on fire that summer: the Chris Chan controversy. Full disclosure: Chris Chan was on the Shrek 2 Retold project. They had done drawings and voice lines, and we had everything in hand before the news broke. Once it did, we removed their name from the spreadsheet, started finding replacements, and I’m making it crystal clear here: we don’t condone those actions, we won’t be working with Chris Chan in the future, and none of the unreleased work we have from them is being used. After that, we get into the fun production chaos: how we got Mark DeCarlo (Hugh Neutron) involved for a tiny “more heat, less foam” line, and why that cameo turned into a whole visual challenge. I talk about us hunting for a 3D animator, finding Nebbed/Neid, and watching him absolutely blow us away by modeling H Neutron from scratch and matching that Jimmy Neutron vibe. We also nerd out about how the score is tying wildly different shots together so it feels like one movie, and we tease some live-action stuff we filmed—but we’re keeping certain scenes under wraps so the final movie can knock you back in context.
