This video is me holding my very first camera ever—the one my parents gifted me back in 2009 for my birthday/graduation. It’s still in pristine condition (tag on, security thing on, plastic still on), and I can honestly say it changed my life. At the time, I wasn’t thinking about YouTube at all. I wanted to make visual diaries—little moments from life that I could look back on like journal entries, not content for the internet. I talk about how I learn best by doing, not just watching tutorials, and how everything started to “click” for me when I went on a shoot with my friend Holly and learned in real time with a purpose. Over the years I’ve had to stop chasing perfection—because practice doesn’t make perfect, it makes progress. This camera also connects me to my dad. He loved photography and videography, and after he passed in 2010, filming became a way I still feel close to him. If you’ve been waiting to feel ready, this is your reminder: fear and passion can live in the same place. Start anyway, keep showing up, and let progress do what perfection never will.
