In this video I’m lining up three of the biggest touring options in Australia and talking about what they’re actually good at: my 300 Series as the modern all-rounder, Maca’s 79 Series as the remote-track weapon, and Brett’s Ram 2500 as the big-lap comfort king. We keep it non-biased (no dying on swords here) and break touring into three real categories: big lap towing/comfort, remote track simplicity and parts availability, and the family wagon that can do a bit of everything. We measure real-life dimensions with touring setups, hit the weighbridge fully loaded, compare turning circles, and yarn about fuel use and cost to build. The 300 comes in around 3.32t loaded (with 170L of fuel) and is the easiest to live with day-to-day—shorter, turns tighter, and it’s the “lift, tyres, fridge and go” option. The Ram is long (6.34m) and heavy enough with tray/canopy to push over the 4.5t limit (meaning MB2/truck rego territory), but it’s built for payload, towing and comfort. The 79 surprises on weight (about 3.56t loaded) and stays the pick for remote touring because it’s simple, tough, and Toyotas are everywhere out west for parts—even if it’s agricultural as anything inside.
