G’DAY YOU BLOODY LEGENDS — we loaded up what has to be the biggest Moreton Island boys trip we’ve ever done. We’re talking a full-on convoy of rigs, straight off the barge onto the sand, hunting a camp spot big enough for the circus, and doing the classic Moreton mission: west coast camp, inland tracks when the tide’s up, North Point for a surf, then rip the east coast down to Gutter Bar for a feed. Moreton’s the best for this stuff because you can actually lap the joint in a day — none of that four-hours-between-stops carry on. But of course, it wouldn’t be a proper “build it, break it, fix it” trip if the Classic Chevy K-truck didn’t throw a tantrum on its first proper off-road test. We jumped in for the shakedown, rattling doors, hydro bumps, no handles to hang onto, and then bang — front tailshaft lets go and we’re instantly living that two-wheel-drive trophy truck life for the rest of the island. It’s the perfect reminder why we always say travel with good mates, because when something snaps in the sand, you need a crew that’ll laugh, help, and get you moving again. We also got into the little things that make these trips work — sand modes, traction control dramas, high tides forcing inland routes, and why a simple swag setup still wins when you’ve got a thousand blokes (apparently) rolling into camp.
