About This Video

The other day I was in an audio store in Singapore with a friend, and we got into that classic “do switches even matter on IEMs?” debate. That basically kicked off this review of the Yanyin Canon Pro. I go through the unboxing (yes, the sleeve is boring, and no, the hi-res logo doesn’t add 200% performance), but the actual box opening is super classy with that hinge design. You get a hockey puck case, a thick and girthy cable with a really sturdy hand feel, usable eartips (not e-waste, thankfully), and even a SIM ejection tool for the switches. On build, it’s a typical black resin hybrid look with a faceplate—nice, but nothing wild. Inside, it’s a 6BA + 1DD setup with an LCP diaphragm dynamic driver, and the tuning lands in that classic V-shaped “hybrid tonality” zone. For the switches: yes, they do something… but mostly just the first one. All switches off = bass is flat and not impactful; first switch on = it becomes great, and the rest of the permutations barely matter to me. Sound-wise, I found the Canon Pro to be comforting—like a bowl of chicken soup—while still resolving well with smooth, natural treble extension and a stage that’s strong in width, height, depth, and pinpoint positioning. I compare it against the 7Hz Aurora and Moondrop Dusk, and I’ll be honest: after the dust settled, I preferred the Canon Pro for being more complete, more dynamic, and simply more comfortable to listen to. It’s an excellent IEM at its price point, even if I wish the chassis and switch implementation were more interesting.
