About This Video

I went into the Kefine Arnar expecting the usual planar IEM experience: clean, high-resolution treble… and then that familiar “metallic shimmer” that makes you question your recording, your ears, and possibly the universe. This video is basically me unpacking that problem—why planar treble can sound like cymbals were replaced with thin sheets of disappointment—and why Kefine’s solution is such a weird little plot twist. They took a single planar (normally loved for coherence) and added a balanced armature to handle treble, which is either clever engineering or an invitation for phase weirdness and musical amnesia. I walk through the unboxing (classic Kefine energy), the genuinely spiffy build with that octagonal faceplate pattern, and the comfort (no ear negotiations required). Then it’s straight into the sound: a V-shaped tuning with natural tonal weight and a touch of warmth, so it stays musical instead of sterile. Bass is fast, linear, and controlled with more sub-bass presence than mid-bass; mids stay defined and pleasantly tinted; and the treble is the main event—smoother and more refined thanks to the BA assist. Imaging lands in that “small concert hall” vibe, and my verdict is an A for enjoyment because it fixes a common planar complaint without throwing away what makes planars fun.
