About This Video

In this video I review the DUNU DN242, a $349 tribrid IEM that honestly shouldn’t make sense on paper. You’re getting eight drivers per side: dual dynamics for bass, four balanced armatures for mids/highs, and—crucially—actual microplanar drivers handling the ultra highs. Usually when brands try to cram this much tech under $400, you get a messy, incoherent tuning. But DUNU didn’t just throw parts at the wall here—they engineered something surprisingly focused and cohesive. I go through the unboxing and build, and the accessory package is genuinely above the usual “industry standard.” The modular Q-Lock cable is a clean way to swap 3.5 and 4.4, the tip selection is strong (including SNS tips), and the olive green case is a nice break from the usual gray/black. Build-wise, the 3D printed chassis plus that deep glossy red faceplate with layered gold/white detailing looks way more premium than the price suggests. Sound-wise, I tested with the LotUp GT2 and DA navigator. The DN242 is a correctly executed V-shape: impactful dual-DD bass that stays controlled, and a midrange that becomes the technical centerpiece—thick note weight, high-res texture, and one of the most prominent vocal presentations in this bracket. Treble extends airy and smooth with zero harshness or sibilance, and while stage isn’t “stadium,” the imaging feels cohesive with solid depth. I also compare it to the DN142: the 142 is the fun, warmer boom-boom pick, while the 242 is the tighter, more vocal-forward technical upgrade.
