About This Video

Well well well—Kiwi is now making headphones, and in this video I took a look at the Kiwi Ears Division (aka KS Division), a $49 entry-level closed-back that honestly surprised me. I ran through the super basic unboxing (plain black box, minimal contents), and you basically get the headphones in a plastic bag, two cables (one coily, one straight), plus a quarter-inch adapter. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. Build-wise, my unit is silver and it initially reminded me of the Audio-Technica MSR7, except the Division has extra hinges that let the cups rotate a little. The big caveat: it’s largely plastic, including the hinges, so I’m not super confident about repeated folding over time. The upside is it’s extra lightweight and comfortable for all-day listening, and the anodized aluminum end caps are a nice touch. Sound is where it redeems itself. I’d call it a fun V-shaped tuning with punchy, resonant bass (my favorite part is the bass drum kick), relaxed but clear vocals, and polite treble that avoids harshness—even on bright tracks like Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.” Soundstage is noticeably wide/tall for the price, and if you prioritize stage and brainless fun over max detail retrieval, the Division is a solid pick for home use.
