About This Video

In this video I take a look at the Tanchjim Zero Ultima, which is basically entry-level madness done properly. Tanchjim, in my experience, tends to have better branding standards than a lot of random “slap-anything-on-the-box” ChiFi, and the unboxing is very typically Tanchjim: clean white/grey presentation, a simple grey pouch (yes, it’s just a grey pouch), and two sets of actually decent eartips. If you’re treble sensitive or want a slightly darker tilt, go with the smaller-bore set; if you want a more airy experience, use the larger-bore ones. Build-wise, it’s a see-through plastic chassis that lets you see the driver, and I like see-through things, so that’s a win. It’s very light and basically weightless in the ear, though it does feel a bit cheap in hand—but we’re talking about a ~$15–$16 IEM, so no complaints. You don’t get an interchangeable cable, but honestly at this price you’re not cable rolling anyway. Sound-wise, the Zero Ultima is a V-shape with elevated upper mids, so it comes off versatile with a more pronounced vocal region. Bass is controlled and polite with more sub-bass emphasis than mid-bass, mids are forward with a slight warm coloration (female vocals shine), and treble is smooth with good extension, though I did wish for a touch more resolution. Versus the 7Hz Zero and Zero 2, it lands as a nicely balanced middle ground—great as “training wheels” for figuring out your preferred signature.
