Alright, future strawberry farmers! Today, I'm sharing a cautionary tale from my garden. I dove headfirst into the world of bare root strawberries, picturing plump, juicy rewards. I meticulously followed the planting process, tucked those little root nubs into the soil with dreams of jam dancing in my head. Well, let's just say my initial enthusiasm wilted faster than a forgotten lettuce leaf in July. Those bare roots? Deader than a doornail. They were about as lively as a week-old… well, let's just say they weren't exactly perky and ready to perform. 😉 It was a flat-out failure. Buy these instead, because they ain’t dead… https://amzn.to/432z8EZ But I'm not one to let a little (or a lot of) plant death deter me! I've dusted off my gardening gloves and upgraded to some LIVE strawberry plants. Join me as I give this strawberry-growing thing another shot, this time with plants that are, you know, actually still breathing. In this video, you'll witness my bare root blunder, learn from my mistakes (so you don't end up with a strawberry graveyard!), and see my triumphant (hopefully!) attempt at planting some thriving, fruit-bearing beauties. So what to do? I'm going to try growing anything I can get away with from zone 9 and maybe zone 10! Might be getting some guava, citrus, papaya, and even mango’s to try to get them to grow and thrive in my little food forest. I have watched days to weeks worth of YouTube videos on Back to Eden Gardening, wood chip gardening, permaculture, planting guilds and many other styles of gardening. I’m doing my own thing but still following what I’ve learned from all of these great youtube teachers, as well as grow a regenerative and organic garden. But seriously, a big thank you to all the creators I’ve been watching that have been outstanding at teaching me. I can only hope my videos continue to assist others and show that anyone with the willingness to try this, you can do it too! Clicking on these links is part of the amazon associates program.
