I've been wanting to attract more bats to my yard for a while. Not only are they incredible for bug control, but I've heard they're great at "hanging out." I found this incredible bat house that looks like a miniature castle—I couldn't resist! My bird feeders are a popular spot, so I figured I would just build the bats' new castle right on top of the same pole. Turns out, mounting a small castle on a round pole 20 feet in the air isn't as easy as it sounds. I had to get a little creative and use some scrap metal to fashion a custom mounting plate. You'll see my thought process and how I managed to get it securely in place. The whole thing feels very official now. I'm hoping this new setup will make my backyard the most popular spot in the neighborhood for my new nocturnal friends. So what to do? I'm going to try growing anything I can get away with from zone 9 and maybe zone 10!
